Weight Loss

Are you struggling to achieve your goal weight? If you have tried diet and exercise and still can't lose stubborn weight, our weight loss service may be the answer for you. We offer GLP-1 receptor agonists such as semaglutide and tirzepatide to help kickstart your journey to better health.

How do weight loss medications work?

GLP-1 receptor agonists were originally used as Type II Diabetes treatments as they work by binding to GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas, causing it to release more insulin, which reduces blood sugar. GLP-1 also stimulates the part of the brain that reduces appetite and signals a feeling of fullness leading to less calorie consumption and weight loss.

How long will it take to get to my desired weight

Everyone's body is different so it is hard to predict the length of time it will take to reach your desired weight. On average, most individuals will lose about one pound per week until they reach their goal weight. Our physician assistants will discuss your dosing with you. You will start on a low dose and increase slowly until you are losing weight steadily.

What are the side effects?

The main side effects with these medications are GI upset, nausea, diarrhea and constipation, which usually subside after a few days to a week. If not, the dose can be adjusted. Increased fatigue is also possible as the medication will suppress appetite and in doing so, less calories will be consumed.

Do I need to exercise or diet on this medication?

We recommend all patients do strength training at least 3-4 times per week to maintain their muscle mass. For diet, we encourage patients to eat a well balanced diet with adequate protein and minimal processed fats. Avoiding alcohol while on this medication is also recommended.

How do I get started?

You will start with a 30 minute consultation with one of our physician assistants to discuss your treatment plan using semaglutide or tirzepatide. At this visit, we will discuss your weight loss goals, teach you how to inject the medication, and administer your first dose. Injections for the next month will then be sent home with you to self-administer on the same day weekly. Your medication should be kept in the refrigerator. Follow up appointments are scheduled monthly to check on your progress and adjust dose as needed.
